Athletics 2024
Borris College enjoyed its most successful year ever at the South East Leinster athletics event, held at SETU at the start of May. The sun shone brightly over both days, adding to the vibrant and competitive atmosphere.
An incredible 58 students from 1st to 6th year competed with pride and passion, wearing our fabulous new athletics team vests for the first time. The team looked united and professional, and their performances certainly matched their appearance.
Across track and field events, there were many impressive displays of athleticism, determination, and sportsmanship. A number of students narrowly missed out on qualification, but their commitment and progress were hugely encouraging.
We’re thrilled to celebrate the students who qualified for the Leinster Championships and, in some cases, went even further:
Leinster Qualifiers & Medal Winners
- Adam Poole – 2nd in 800m at South East Leinster. A seriously impressive run in a highly competitive final.
- Jack Gardiner – Bronze in the shot put.
- Rachel Gardiner – Silver in Discus and Bronze in Shot Put at South East Leinster, followed by Bronze in both Discus and Shot Put at Leinster. Rachel has qualified for the All-Ireland Championships. Having recently graduated, we thank her sincerely for her dedication and contribution to athletics throughout her years at Borris College. We wish her the very best!
- Aoibhlinn Steger – 2nd in High Jump and 1st in Pole Vault at South East Leinster. A strong all-round field performance from a talented athlete.
- Tom Murphy – Gold in the grueling Steeplechase and Silver in the 1500m at South East Leinster. He then claimed Gold at the Leinster Championships and will proudly represent Borris College in the All-Ireland Championships. Best of luck, Tom – we’re very proud!
These fantastic results are a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students.
