Message from the Department of Education and Youth regarding the resumption of school
Junior Cycle and Leaving Certificate Practical Exams
Because of the current disruptions, the State Examinations Commission (SEC) has decided to defer the practical examinations scheduled for Monday, 13 April only, for Leaving Certificate Music and Junior Cycle Home Economics.
This decision was made because, at this time, the SEC cannot be sure that all examiners and students will be able to travel to their schools.
This change affects only the practical examinations planned for Monday, 13 April. Not all schools had practical exams scheduled for this day. SEC will arrange new dates for any student and school impacted as soon as possible. SEC will contact all schools impacted with further information on these arrangements.
Please reassure students impacted that they will get the opportunity to undertake their practical examinations.
At this time, practical examinations scheduled for Tuesday will go ahead. The SEC will advise you by lunchtime on Monday should there be any change to that position. Please monitor your emails from SEC for updates.
School Transport
Bus Éireann has confirmed that school transport services are due to restart tomorrow, Monday, 13 April. Bus Éireann is working with contractors through local school transport offices to ensure that any disruption to school transport services is limited and localised.
However, if road blockades continue or fuel supply issues arise, there may be delays or disruptions to some school bus services. Bus Éireann will contact families as soon as possible if services are affected.
Members of the public are advised to plan their journey before travelling and allow extra travel time. The National Transport Authority has a dedicated web page for information on service disruptions. The public can also check https://traffic.tii.ie/ for general traffic alerts. Those using public transport should check with their operators in case of diversions or disruptions.
We will continue to monitor the situation, work with the National Emergency Coordination Group, and provide updates as more information becomes available.
